Pavlos G. Maris

The present article seeks to introduce the recent US and EU legislation dealing with the regulation of alternative investment vehicles, focusing on hedge funds in particular. It begins by briefly introducing the operation of hedge funds and their key characteristics. It then goes on to outline the recent US and EU legislation seeking to regulate, among others, hedge funds, and then attempts a critical evaluation of such regulation by taking into account its intended purpose, the mechanics of hedge funds and the recent financial crisis.
