Webinar - Encouraging Interest on E-Money & Supervising E-Money Issuers

On 21 February, 2018, the UNSW DFS team held a webinar, hosted by UNCDF’s MM4P. The topics covered included: Encouraging the Payment of Interest on E-money and Resolution Powers for E-money Issuers.

The presenters, Louise Malady and Ross Buckley canvassed the policy options available, the global examples of their applications, and trade-offs to consider.

We discussed issues such as:

  • Whether participants considered that interest payments on stored value could encourage uptake of the products by end-users;
  • Current thinking on the issue of interest payments on e-money in the participants’ jurisdictions; and
  • Current resolution powers available and in use today.

Participants in the webinar included members of the UNCDF team throughout West Africa, other international development partners, financial regulators and mobile money providers from the West Africa region and other countries, including Nepal.

The discussion was in English, however, the presentation slides are bilingual - English and French.
