Class action litigation continues to develop as a distinct and specialised area of practice requiring familiarity with the legislative provisions that govern class action procedure and their use and elucidation by the courts.

This work provides a section-by-section analysis of the legislative regimes in the Federal Court, Victoria, New South Wales and Australia’s newest class action regime in Queensland. It also provides analysis of relevant case law and reference to useful extrinsic materials such as academic publications, law reform reports and practice notes.  The text also considers the underlying concepts and controversies in the area through combining the research of the academy with lessons from practice.

Chief Justice Allsop of the Federal Court, in his Foreword to the text, describes the second edition as “a meticulously researched and highly useful text for practitioners, judges and any person with an interest in class action proceedings in this country”.

The Australian Annotated Class Actions Legislation is co-authored by Professor Michael Legg, Director of the IMF Bentham, Class Actions Research Initiative and Ross McInnes, partner of law firm Clayton Utz.  The text is published by LexisNexis.
