The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has released the Global Reinsurance Market Report 2009 (report), which found that the global reinsurance market has demonstrated robustness and resilience despite international financial turmoil and the low investment environment that manifested in 2008.

The report was based on data provided by 51 global reinsurers. Key findings included that in spite of international financial turmoil, reinsurers returned an overall positive result, and so contributed to the stability of the global insurance market and ultimately the security of individual insurance customers. Reinsurers continued to focus on diversified risk taking and so drew on the fundamentals of the reinsurance business.
