ASIC’s Compulsory Information Gathering Powers

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission ("ASIC") has released an information sheet describing the breadth of its compulsory information-gathering powers in two broad areas of regulatory activity, surveillances and investigations into suspected breaches of the law. ASIC’s most commonly used powers include the power to: require the production of documents, inspect documents, require disclosure of information, require an individual to attend an examination, compel assistance with an investigation, and apply for a search warrant.
