APRA releases consultation package on reinsurance counterparty data collection for general insurers

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has released for consultation a discussion paper setting out revised proposals for the collection of reinsurance counterparty data from general insurers and Level 2 insurance groups. The proposal comes as a result of insurance industry exposure to reinsurers and the material source of counterparty risk that it presents. The collected data would enable APRA to assess the impact of a reinsurer downgrade or failure on the prescribed capital amount for individual insurers and the general insurance industry.
