CLMR Workshop: Doping in Sport

Doping Symposium, 16 April 2014
On 16 April 2014, CLMR held a workshop on Doping in Sport. The workshop developed by Associate Professor Deborah Healey promoted outstanding scholarship in the area of anti- doping, which substantially impacts on the lives of sporting participants, the revenues of professional sport and raises great interest in the general public. Participants workshopped research papers to investigate doping from their expert legal and scientific perspectives. They raised new issues, discussed outstanding problems and provided some solutions. The involvement of these legal, scientific and other experts will provide fresh and accurate perspectives on a well-publicised area following informed debate.
 
Experts invited by Associate Professor Deborah Healey included Visiting Professor Ulrich Haas from the University of Zurich, a member of the drafting panel for the amended World Anti-Doping Code. Other participants were Professor Joellen Riley from University of Sydney, Alan Sullivan QC, New Zealand barrister Paul David (author of the Cambridge publication “A Guide to the World Anti-Doping Code”), barrister Sudarshan Kanagaratnam and practitioner Tony O’Reilly.
