It was intended to promote outstanding scholarship in the area, focusing on issues such as the rights and obligations of participants, the revenues of professional sport and the interests of the public. Draft papers which were circulated prior to and then presented fro comment at the workshop. The workshop participants were selected experts in various areas of law, with and without expertise in sport law.

Participants included Professor Ulrich Haas from the University of Zurich, Professors Deborah Healey ,  Andrew Byrnes, and Alex Steel from UNSW Law. Issues ranged from doping to match fixing, governance and human rights in sport.
